Winklevoss sent $4.9 million to Fairshake to lobby for cryptocurrencies in the United States
Gemini crypto exchange founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss donated $4.9 million to the Fairshake committee to support cryptocurrency-friendly candidates in the upcoming U.S. elections.
According to the US Federal Election Commission (FEC) and documents from the Fairshake Super Committee on Political Activism (PAC), the Winklevoss brothers (Tyler & Cameron Winklevoss) made a donation of $2.45 million each. American laws allow Fairshake to collect and spend unlimited amounts to support candidates loyal to cryptocurrencies.
Fairshake reported that at the end of the reporting period, the organization had $72.8 million in cash. Another major sponsor of Fairshake this year was Payward Inc., which is the operator of the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange — on January 12, it sent $750,000 to the committee. Electric Capital Partners also donated $500,000 to the organization on January 26. The venture capital firm Blockchain Capital also contributed, transferring $100,000 to Fairshake in January.
In December, Fairshake received a total of $14 million from Andreessen Horowitz co-founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, as well as $5 million from Jump Crypto, $15.5 million from the American crypto exchange Coinbase and $20 million from Ripple Labs.
Fairshake positions itself as an organization supporting candidates who seek to make the United States a hub for innovation. Many participants in the crypto industry have high hopes for Fairshake, as cryptocurrency companies have been under great pressure from lawmakers and regulators over the past 18 months. Therefore, the main task of Fairshake is to combat excessive regulation of the industry.
