The co-founder of the Wex crypto exchange asked the court to mitigate the punishment and return the assets
The Moscow City Court has begun considering the complaint of one of the founders of the Russian-language crypto exchange Wex, which collapsed six years ago. The defendant is accused of embezzlement of several billion rubles.
Alexey Ivanov (until 2022 — Bilyuchenko) asks to reconsider the decision of the court of first instance, which awarded 3.5 years in a penal colony and 500,000 rubles in fine. The Meshchansky district court with such a verdict in the fall punished the former administrator of Wex for embezzlement of customer assets worth 3.17 billion rubles.
The complainant considers the sentence too harsh and asks to withdraw the arrest from the accounts. In Alfa-Bank, the crypto businessman has enough money blocked to fully cover the damage, Ivanov-Bilyuchenko makes it clear.
The court heard Ivanov-Biluchenko, but did not continue the meeting, postponing it to February 29.
Alexey Ivanov-Bilyuchenko, who has been in Russian pre-trial detention centers since March 2022, has a chance to leave the colony almost immediately, as soon as it is time to go through the stage. A year in pre-trial detention facilities is usually equivalent to one and a half years in a general regime colony.
