The APM called the launch date of a 100 MW mining center in Buryatia

In the second half of 2024, a data processing center (DPC) for energy-intensive computing will be launched in the Far East, in particular for cryptocurrency mining, which will be commissioned by Bitriver-B (part of the BitRiver group of companies). The design capacity of the data center is 100 MW.

According to Sergey Bezdelov, director of the Association of Industrial Mining (APM), this is the largest facility among all data centers in the Republic of Buryatia and the Far Eastern Federal District. BitRiver's investments in the project exceed 1.4 billion rubles.

"In 2022, the direct construction of a data center began within the territory of advanced development (TOP Buryatia), and this year BiRiver will complete the implementation of a landmark investment project for the Far East and the whole of Russia, despite the inclusion of the company in the sanctions list of the US Treasury," Bezdelov said.

About 120 high-class specialists will work at the enterprise. Special attention will be paid to the implementation of the program for the growth of young personnel for the high-tech industry.

According to the Association's estimates, the entire field of high-performance and energy-intensive computing in Russia, especially given the trend of widespread use of artificial intelligence, may consume up to several tens of GW by 2035.

In mid-February, one of the world's largest vendors of equipment for artificial intelligence technology visited the site and assessed its suitability for solving AI tasks. The data center will specialize in high-performance energy-intensive computing, including mining, cloud and other advanced digital services.
