Santa Monica Makes History with First Official Bitcoin Office, Inspired by El Salvador

Santa Monica’s city council has unanimously approved an official Bitcoin office, inspired by El Salvador. Led by Vice Mayor Lana Negrete and partnered with Proof of Workforce, the office will focus on Bitcoin education, partnerships, job creation, and sustainable mining.

Santa Monica, a coastal city in California, has shown a growing interest in cryptocurrencies, with several local businesses accepting digital currencies and a vibrant tech community supporting Crypto & blockchain innovation. However, like the rest of the United States, Santa Monica is also subject to federal regulations. Cryptocurrencies are legal but regulated, with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) overseeing their use and ensuring compliance with securities laws.

In the latest developments, the City of Santa Monica created a history by opening an official Bitcoin office. The city council voted unanimously to start this office, partnering with the non-profit Proof of Workforce, and it won’t cost the city any money.

According to a press release sent to a popular Bitcoin news media “Bitcoin Magazine”, the office has four main goals: teaching people about Bitcoin, organizing partnerships and conferences to boost tourism, helping residents find jobs, and exploring sustainable Bitcoin mining operations using the city’s renewable energy.

Vice Mayor Lana Negrete, who led the initiative, expressed excitement about learning Bitcoin in Santa Monica, stating, “Bitcoin is for everyone!”

Monica followed El Salvador’s footsteps, which adopted Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021. Since then, El Salvador has opened a Bitcoin office to push Bitcoin education among citizens and also attracted investment and tourism to the very big degree because of only Bitcoin & best strategies.
