Polygon zkEVM resumed operation after a crash

To fix the failure, emergency mode activation was required, which allowed the developers to apply the necessary fixes to the system to resume interaction with the first level.

On March 23, a failure occurred in the second-level Ethereum network Polygon zkEVM, as a result of which the blockchain, launched about a year ago, stopped for more than 10 hours.

"The beta version of the Polygon zkEVM mainnet has encountered a problem in the sequencer due to the reorganization of L1," the team reported.

To fix the failure, emergency mode activation was required, which allowed the developers to apply the necessary fixes to the system to resume interaction with the first level.

The hours-long blockchain delay only affected Polygon zkEVM and did not affect the main Polygon PoS network, as well as any others deployed using Polygon CDK.

After the incident, the emergency mode was turned off. This means that all updates in the protocol will be activated with a regular 10-day delay, the team recalled. She will present the results of the crash investigation this week.

Polygon zkEVM was launched on March 27, 2023 with the first symbolic transaction of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. The network uses a roll-up architecture with zero-knowledge proof technology.

"Polygon has excellent solutions. We must not allow the failure of the sequencer to ruin any reputation. It happens, mistakes happen, it's an early technology," commented Nick Dodson, CEO and co—founder of Fuel Labs.
