Poland's Regulator will be able to block Crypto Accounts
The Polish cryptocurrency regulator, the Financial Supervision Commission (KNF), will have the right to independently block crypto accounts for several days
According to the initiative, KNF will be able to unilaterally block crypto accounts for up to 96 hours. Such measures will be applied to addresses from which, in the opinion of the regulator, suspicious transactions are carried out.
According to the decision of the prosecutor's office, the funds can be blocked for up to six months. After this period, the freeze will be lifted. However, only if the owner has not been charged with anything.
"In case of suspicion that the transaction may be related to the commission of a crime, KNF will be able to independently block the accounts of cryptocurrency holders," the department noted.
Polish crypto investors reacted negatively to this news. Some of them claim that the KNF's powers are now unlimited.
It is also noteworthy that the government and the KNF have stated that the new rules comply with MiCA cryptocurrency standards. The regulation requires crypto exchanges to report suspicious transactions, but does not provide for account blocking.
