Self-Proclaimed Billionaire Begged to Be Released
Nigeria’s self-proclaimed cryptocurrency billionaire, Linus Williams, recently arrested on charges of fraud and terrorism funding, has been released on bail after spending a few days in custody. According to a local report, Williams’ release was confirmed by controversial Nigerian Instagram celebrity Verydarkman.
As reported by Bitcoin.com News on July 16, Williams, also known as Blord, was detained following complaints against Blord Group and associated companies. These complaints ranged from cryptocurrency and internet fraud to non-adherence to regulations. Williams also faces a charge of violating the Central Bank of Nigeria Act.
However, an Instagram post by Verydarkman claimed that Williams, who boasts 3.4 million followers on the same social media platform, begged for his release.
“After much begging and crying, Blord is out. He will be returning next week to answer for all his alleged crimes. I believe the Nigeria Police Force — National Cybercrime Center will not compromise, and justice will be upheld. See you next week, Mr. Influential,” the Instagram celebrity said.
Although the Nigerian Police Force had not confirmed the release at the time of writing, Williams appeared to confirm it after he took to social media to signal his return with a cryptic message: “Youth President For A Reason.” While few details about Williams’ crimes have been made available, some critics argue that the self-proclaimed billionaire is in this predicament due to his actions.
