Customers of the Polymarket service have bet a cryptocurrency worth over $78,000 that North Korea will detonate or not detonate an atomic bomb by March 1, 2024.
The vast majority of gambling enthusiasts doubt that the head of the country, Kim Jong-un, will have time to conduct nuclear tests before the end of March. The probability of this outcome is estimated at only 6%, so a successful bet will allow you to increase your capital by almost 18 times. A winning bet on a negative result will bring only 4.7% profit.
At the same time, experts do not exclude the possibility of testing the DPRK's atomic bomb in the near future. In January, the North Koreans launched three cruise missiles towards their southern neighbors. In this regard, former CIA analyst Bruce Klingner believes that Kim Jong-un may order the detonation of an intercontinental ballistic missile over Japan to demonstrate military might.
North Korea conducted nuclear weapons tests six times from 2006 to 2017. Former analyst of the US Department of Defense Bruce Bechtol believes that the DPRK plans to test missiles again soon, including those equipped with nuclear warheads.
