A Russian couple living on the island of Phuket was kidnapped and threatened to transfer $845,000 worth of cryptocurrencies to intruders.

On Wednesday, January 31, the couple was returning home in the evening, and was abducted near a snack bar on Hongek Utis Street in Mueang district. The kidnappers put the couple in a black Hyundai minivan and took them away in an unknown direction. The attackers immediately stated that they needed to transfer funds to the kidnappers' wallet, otherwise "it would be bad." The husband did not argue and transferred the digital assets, after which they were dropped off. The couple immediately contacted the police.

As the head of the Phuket police, Major General Sinlert Sukhum, said, law enforcement agencies detained four suspects who also turned out to be Russians. They deny their guilt and say they do not know the victims and are ordinary tourists who arrived in Thailand in mid-December. Interviews and other investigative measures are currently being conducted to collect evidence and evidence. The police have already notified the Phuket Migration Service about the suspects.
