In Kaliningrad, two men were jailed for 12 and 15 years for stealing cryptocurrency
The Kaliningrad Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that it had secured a verdict for two local residents who kidnapped a man in the fall of 2021, who had 39.8 million rubles in cryptocurrency.
Threatening to kill the man, the criminals obtained from him access to a crypto wallet and access codes to confirm transfers, and then transferred the victim's assets to their wallets. Then the victim was drugged, tied up, taken to the forest, where they tried to strangle him with a scarf around his neck. When the man lost consciousness, the attackers believed that he had died, threw branches at the body and fled the scene of the crime.
After recovering, the victim managed to get to a nearby house and reported the incident to the police. The attackers were quickly found and detained.
The Central District Court of Kaliningrad recently sentenced a 30-year-old participant in the attack to 15 years, and his 40-year-old accomplice to 12 years in a high-security colony. The verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.
