HTX has applied for a license in Hong Kong

HTX Exchange (formerly Huobi) has applied for a license in Hong Kong through a subsidiary managed by HBGL Hong Kong Limited. Only in February 2024, five counterparties began the registration procedure in this jurisdiction.

According to the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), only two companies — OSL Digital Securities and Hash Blockchain - have received a VATP license on the local market.

Among the latest applicants, it is worth noting Bybit. Hong Kong introduced a licensing regime for service providers in June 2023. This led to a wave of applications from crypto exchanges.

It is noteworthy that at the same time, in June 2023, HTX advisor Justin Sun stated that it takes 6-12 months to obtain a license from the SFC. According to various estimates, the cost of such a procedure is about $ 25 million.

At the time of writing, neither HTX nor Justin Sun have commented on the situation in any way.
