Hackers hacked Trezor Account to advertise fraudulent TRZR token
Attackers hacked the official account of the manufacturer of Trezor hardware wallets on the social network X, posting tweets about the presale of fraudulent TRZR tokens.
This was warned by the independent "blockchain detective" ZachXBT. A series of tweets posted on the official Trezor account advertised a fake TRZR token created on the basis of the Solana network. Users were required to send SOL coins to the specified Solana address in order to be able to participate in the free token distribution.
The hacker's messages also mentioned the new memcoin Slerf, which also functions on Solana. Given the popularity of this memcoin, it was most likely used to get users more involved in the scheme. ZachXBT also noted that the attacker managed to steal about $8,100 from Trezor's Zapper account.
"Imagine that a hacker hacked into a Trezor account only to steal $8,100, including a 25% drain fee," ZachXBT wrote.
The Trezor incident caused a wave of outrage in the crypto community. One of the X users criticized the hardware wallet manufacturer for most likely not using two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect his account X. The user urged the company to take security issues more seriously.
In January, Trezor warned users about a possible phishing threat after hacking into the security systems of a third-party partner, as a result of which the contact details of about 66,000 users could be disclosed. In May 2023, Unciphered was able to detect a vulnerability in the Trezor Model T hardware wallet and obtain a private key.
