Ethereum Name Service (ENS) accuses Unstoppable Domains of illegal appropriation of intellectual property

Ethereum Name Service (ENS), a domain name system on the Ethereum blockchain, claims that Unstoppable Domains has illegally appropriated the right to someone else's intellectual property.
In a lawsuit filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), ENS claims that Unstoppable Domains misappropriated the blockchain domain name resolution technology developed by ENS. Blockchain domain name resolution technology helps match a domain name with its corresponding IP address. It is similar to the Domain Name System (DNS), but uses a decentralized network and does not rely on a single server, making it more reliable and secure.
The patent takeover of Unstoppable Domains is a gross violation of ethics because they are privatizing what should be public, violating the very foundation and ethics of Web3 and the open internet. ENS remains steadfast in the fight for decentralization and the collective good. In addition, ENS has drawn attention to several other patent applications filed by Unstoppable Domains. Some of these include the underlying technologies needed for blockchain and cross-chain applications. Trying to patent them takes the industry away from the community-based approach that is necessary for the development of decentralized technologies.
