Coinbase Plans to Launch Cryptocurrencies in Canada

Coinbase exchange plans to significantly expand its products and services in Canada, including by offering cryptocurrencies. This is reported by CoinDesk with reference to the regional director of the exchange, Lucas Matheson.

In February 2023, local authorities significantly tightened supervision of the industry. Crypto exchanges were given a month to register, otherwise the companies had to leave the local market.

In March 2023, the media announced that platforms such as OCX, Binance, and Deribit intend to leave the country. However, Coinbase remained and announced plans to register.

In August 2023, the exchange entered into a partnership with local payment solution provider Peoples Trust Company to integrate the Interac infrastructure.

In the near future, Coinbase plans to release perpetual futures for crypto assets and other derivatives to the local market, he noted. Matheson also said that the exchange is in active dialogue with the authorities to update the regulatory framework.

To this end, the company joined the non-profit organization Canadian Web3 Council. Its goal is to ease regulation in the country, Matheson said.
