Binance top Manager Nadeem Andjarwalla was able to escape from arrest in Nigeria
One of the high-ranking Binance executives detained in Nigeria by local authorities escaped from custody and left the country. The authorities of the African country are trying to knock out $ 10 billion from the exchange as compensation for tax evasion and the collapse of the national currency.
The escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla was first reported by the local edition of Premium Times, citing sources familiar with the situation. The top manager of the world's largest crypto exchange disappeared on March 22 from a guest house in Abuja, where he and his colleague Tigran Gambaryan were being held under the protection of the Nigerian special services.
The security guard on duty took the Binance employee to the nearest mosque, where Anjarwalla was going to perform prayer in honor of the holy month of Ramadan. But the top manager of Binance was able to hide from surveillance, the interlocutors tell Premium Times.
It is assumed that Anjarwalla, who also holds Kenyan citizenship, took off from Abuja on a Middle Eastern airliner. An immigration official confirmed: the Binance executive left Nigeria on a Kenyan passport.
It remains unclear how Andjarwalla was able to leave the mosque unnoticed, get his Kenyan passport, and then get on an international flight. The British passport with which the employee of the crypto exchange entered Nigeria remained under the control of the Nigerian authorities all the time.
