Arkham has discovered a UK government wallet with $4.1 billion worth of bitcoins
The $4.1 billion bitcoin wallet belongs to the UK government. This was stated by Arkham Intelligence analysts.
Experts from the Arkham Intelligence analytical platform have discovered an address associated with the UK government. In total, it holds 61,245 BTC, which is about $4.1 billion at the time of writing.
According to experts, in 2018, the UK police confiscated 61,000 BTC from two Chinese citizens. The source reports that in the period from 2014 to 2017, the suspect Zhiming Qian purchased cryptocurrency with funds received as a result of investment fraud, and for a long time hid from the Chinese authorities.
Arkham clarified that the government only gained access to the seized bitcoins in July 2021. Now users of the platform can view the balance and transaction history of this wallet.
"The police statements correspond to the flows of funds in the blockchain in July 2021. They have been added to an address associated with the UK government," Arkham said in a statement.
