A. Siluanov: CBDC can become a means of settlement between the BRICS countries
It is proposed to create a platform that would connect the financial systems of its participants.
Russia is ready to introduce the use of digital currencies of central banks (CBDC) as tools to simplify settlements between the BRICS countries, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia.
In an interview with Sputnik, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that Russia, as chairman of the bloc, would promote the adoption of a system aimed at solving the problem of fragmentation of the current "financial, settlement and payment system."
It is proposed to create a platform that would connect the financial systems of its participants. For example, technological gateways for settlements in digital currencies of central banks are already working," Siluanov said.
The official added that the bloc is ready to start testing this system with countries wishing to connect their financial system with the BRICS countries:
Perhaps with China, perhaps with our neighbors in the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union), with the countries of the Persian Gulf.
