The Sonic upgrade will increase Fantom's performance to 2,000 transactions per second
The indicator will increase 10 times from the current 200 TPS provided by Opera technology, which has been operating since 2019.
The decentralized protocol based on the DAG (directed acyclic graph) Fantom will switch to the updated version of Sonic, which assumes a bandwidth of 2000 TPS.
The indicator will increase 10 times from the current 200 TPS provided by Opera technology, which has been operating since 2019.
According to Michael Kong, CEO of the Fantom Foundation, the new technical capabilities will allow Sonic to be used as a common sequencer for various blockchains, capable of processing up to 180 million transactions per day.
Kong added that the update will allow the community to consider the possibility of launching a number of solutions, including:
- own cross-chain bridge with Ethereum based on rollups;
- support for liquid staking;
- the Sonic Labs grant program to support projects in the fields of DeFi, gaming, social media and AI;
- a campaign to encourage users;
- parallel FVM to improve performance;
- "canonical stablecoin" for the ecosystem.
Preparations will continue for the launch of "supersets", which will be implemented by a separate soft fork.
The technical team led by Andre Cronje will continue to explore the possibility of using zk-SNARK technology for off-chain execution with on-chain verification, Kong added.
The implementation of the network update is planned for the end of summer or early autumn. The head of the Fantom Foundation promised to provide more detailed information "in the coming weeks."
