Irish authorities have seized $7.1 million worth of cryptocurrency in a raid aimed at tackling money laundering and darknet sales. Three people have been arrested and one remains in custody. “The arrest of these three individuals and the confiscation of the assets follows a highly sophisticated investigation into the activities of criminal darknet markets by specialists attached to the Garda Cyber Crime Bureau,” said Detective Superintendent Michael Mullen of the Garda Cyber Crime Bureau.
€6.5 million worth of cryptocurrency seized in major Dublin raid
Detectives from the Garda Cyber Crime Bureau (GNCCB) in Ireland seized approximately €6.5 million ($7.1 million) worth of cryptocurrency during a raid in North County Dublin on Monday. The operation, supported by Armed Support, was part of a larger investigation into money laundering and the sale of illegal goods on darknet markets. In addition to the significant amount of cryptocurrency, authorities also seized luxury watches worth over €120,000 and two high-performance cars worth around €220,000.
