The Department of Commerce of the City Hall and the Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of Torrevieja managed to reach an agreement among themselves. Officials promise to make the city one of the first European crypto hubs and believe that blockchain will help create new jobs and increase investments in technology companies. According to Rosario Martínez Chazarra, a member of the city council, the permission to take payment for goods and services in cryptocurrency will attract more crypto investors to the city.

The University of Alicante has promised to launch special courses on digital payments for local businesses. Jorge Almarcha, President of the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, recalled that although "since 2015 it has been possible to pay in cryptocurrencies in Spain," no attempts have been made to introduce payments in digital assets so far.

In November, the Spanish Tax Service ordered citizens of the country to declare crypto assets by March 31, 2024. In October, the Spanish government demanded the accelerated implementation of the Law on the Regulation of Cryptocurrencies in the European Union (MiCA).
